Happy Thanksgiving!
Welcome to the Art site!
Students will need some type smock for the art room. This can be any type of old shirt, apron, or smock. Please make sure that your child's name is written somewhere on the collar. This is to help keep your child's uniform clean. If anyone is able to bring in a box of tissues or wipes for the art room, it would be greatly appreciated.
The Kindergarten, 1st,2nd, and 3rd grade classes will be bringing home turkey feathers to decorate with their families. Students will discuss in class what it means to be thankful and what they are thankful for. Students will then bring home the turkey feathers to decorate with their family on what they are all thankful for. You may use paint, pictures, magazine clippings, stickers, feathers, or beads to decorate the feathers with. Please return the turkey feathers by November 9th.
The 3rd and 4th grade class will be making turkey's in disguise. Students will make a disguise using construction paper, fabric, or markers to hide their turkey's.
The 5th grade class will begin work on the Arbor Day Tree poster contest. The theme for the contest this year is, "Tree's are Terrific... and Energy Wise." Students will learn how trees conserve energy and how they can make their community energy wise. Students will design a poster with this theme in mind. For more information, you can visit their website at arborday.org.
The middle school did a nice job on all their Day of the Dead projects.
The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes will be learning about the value chart and different drawing techniques. Students will learn about contour, blind contour, and linear drawings. Students will then begin a still life drawing, using these techniques.
A great resource from Scholastic Books for children to learn about the idea of "Going Green" is, The Down-to- Earth Guide to Global Warming by Laurie David and Cambria Gordon.
If you have not been able to see it, I have painted a mural of the rainforest on the cafeteria wall. Enjoy! If you have any questions, please email me at asimmons@dordcs.org.
Thank you,
Mrs. Simmons
