The Accelerated Reader computerized reading test program encourages students to learn from and enjoy books. First,, all students read AR approved books. Then they take a reading comprehension test which generates a TOPS report that displays strengths and weaknesses. AR scores and records results as well as creates reports for teachers and parents. With this information teachers can target needed skills at individual levels. Through HomeConnect, you as the family can also access it. Our students are motivated to read! Happy reading to all!! Literacy skills are a priority at our school and we encourage reading for information and enjoyment. Welcome to our comprehensive library! We have varied types of reading material and reference sources to help our children gain world knowledge. We have all kinds of books for all kinds of needs.
In addition,we have a specialized computer network for the location of topics, books, and reference information.
Each week "highlight" books are displayed and library skills are discussed with students. Also, the library is open for classroom use.
A knowledgeable library volunteer staff is always available to discover the right books for each student's wants and needs. Also, we stress literacy skills necessary to locate specific items. We READ,READ,READ!!
HISTORICAL NOTE: In summer '07,things were quite busy as the staff prepared for the big move back "home" to the big school. The new space,The Orlicki Library, is a welcome addition for our 10,000 + books and nonprint material. A three year plan is in place to increase circulation and create a state of the art media center. To update and modernize our collection, we have completed the automation of our present inventory as well as the addition of new curriculum supportive material. With the help of 4 computers, students can locate sources at the flick of a finger and grow through technology. The goal of our library is to generate excitement through books, magazines, cassettes, and videos. Teachers are welcome to use it for literacy experiences such as story hours and research projects. Our focus is to work diligently to prepare students for their future.
HISTORICAL SEPTEMBER '08 UPDATE: We have once again been blessed with the addition of material - first from area schools in the form of Accelerated Readers and printed resources. These "new to us" resources will add more timely information to our collection. Second, library loan from New York State via the Greece School District contributes further to our student learning community. Third, generous families donated their favorite books to share with our children!
SPECIAL RECOGNITION: Our home, which is housed next to the computer lab, underwent a total transformation the summer of '07, thanks to the leadership efforts of a prospective Eagle Scout, Tom Yancone, and his Boy Scout troop. They rolled up their sleeves, cut wood, painted, moved, and assembled shelves, as well as transported 183 cardboard boxes filled with material. In addition, new carpeting and user friendly furniture now complete our inviting atmosphere. It is a beautiful room that is always ready to help our students add to their knowledge. It is truly a wonderful addition to the MOS learning environment!

SPECIAL PROJECTS: Our exciting '07-'08 library project was "Flat Stanley." Each student was given a hand drawn picture of Stanley to send to family and friends and have him travel on a special adventure. Stanley was returned to each child dressed in appropriate clothing from the fun destination. Our creative Stanleys had a wonderful time-as did our students who welcomed them back home!
