Middle States Accreditation

Our Mother of Sorrows is an accredited school by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. "Accreditation is a peer-review process in which members of the educational community, who understand what makes a good school good, lend their experience and expertise to validate a school’s vision of itself." Accreditation signifies that Our Mother of Sorrows has met the MSCES standards for a quality school, including a rigorous process for developing self-knowledge and an on-going strategic plan for school improvement. This recognition is a declaration of the quality education that is available at Our Mother of Sorrows School.
Our Mother of Sorrows School as an accredited school:
- Is focused on a mission. We are true to our mission statement and beliefs.
- Knows itself. We operate from an examined vision of service to students, family, and community.
- Keeps its promises. We have made future promises that we will be able to deliver.
- Accepts objective evaluation. Outside evaluators who have no prior involvement with the school will provide periodic evaluation.
- Is self-correcting. We have demonstrated the ability to control our own quality.
- Is student-oriented. Our philosophy expresses what we do for the whole student.
- Plans for the future. We will continue to plan higher level goals.
- Examines performance. We will regularly obtain and analyze evidence on student achievement.
- Participates in the responsibilities of the academic profession. We will support the activities of evaluation and peer review.
- Is recognized. We will be listed as an accredited school in registries available throughout the world.
Our Mother of Sorrows School's two strategic plans are:
- to strengthen Math instruction and performance in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. this will address the mathematics needs for students in the 21st century. As a result of this plan student performance on the New York State Learning Standards Assessments and standardized tests will increase by 2012.
- To increase the quality and number of times that we come together in prayer as a community in addition to the celebration of the Eucharist.
