Our Admission Policy

Admission Policy

Our Mother of Sorrows School is part of Monroe County Catholic Schools System of the Catholic Diocese of Rochester.

Nondiscrimination Policy
Our Mother of Sorrows School does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, or ethnic origin in admitting students.

Kindergarten Admission
The ideal entry of a child into the Catholic educational system is when the child is eligible for Kindergarten.

A child entering Kindergarten, must be five (5) years old on or before December 1st of the entering school year.

The Mother of Sorrow School Kindergarten teachers will perform Kindergarten screening assessments to determine if the child is academically and socially mature to enter Kindergarten.

Immunization and a health physical must be completed before the beginning of Kindergarten.

Student Registration Process
Registration packets for students are usually made available to our school by the Department of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Rochester each year.

School information is announced in the parish bulletins and local media.

Transfer students from public educational institutions as well as transfer students from other Catholic schools may be admitted to Our Mother of Sorrows School.

Transfer students with their parents/guardians need to meet with Our Mother of Sorrows School principal. Acceptance is subject to review by the principal of Our Mother of Sorrows School.

All students and parents/guardians must accept the philosophy and teaching of Our Mother of Sorrows School and the Department of Catholic Schools of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.

Homeroom Placement
Please be aware that our staff puts much time and thought into finding the most appropriate setting for each student. Understand and trust that we, as professionals, have your child's best interest at heart and work diligently to place students appropriately.

The student placement is as follows:
*Teacher of the current year meet with teachers of the upcoming year.
*Teachers will look at each child's personality, learning style, special needs
and match him/her to the most appropriate teacher.
*The number of students both male and female are to be made as equal
       as possible in each homeroom.
*Teachers will create a blend of students that work well together in each
       room.

Parents are asked not to make requests for specific teachers for their children.
