Our Mother of Sorrows School

Philosophy and Mission Statement

Our Mother of Sorrows School, founded in the year 1946, is rooted in respect for the past, challenged by the present, and hopeful about the future so as to remain "Authentically Catholic and Academically Excellent." Our mission, in partnership with parents, is to empower students to reach their academic and spiritual potential, to prepare each child to be receptive to the message of Jesus, and to share in the life of the Holy Spirit, and though this commitment of faith, to be of service to the community at large.

Belief Statements:

WE BELIEVE THAT...

Gospel values are the basis of Catholic life, doctrine, and prayer that permeate the school day and activities of the school.

Creating an environment that honors each student's uniqueness and dignity is the key to individual development.

Diversity is a crucial element of our modern world.

Education develops each student's potential in all areas of academic study to foster the student's self-esteem, self-reliance and self-discipline.

Students need to accept responsibilities for their behavior and grow to become mature Christians.

A core of moral values and ethical conduct is fundamental to sustaining our society.

All members of the Our Mother of Sorrows community will respect others since we are all made in the image of God.

Students have a right to a safe and nurturing environment that is essential to educational success.

Educating the whole child helps him/her become a contributing member of society.

Parents and members of the community are part of the educational process.
