Grade Four - Mrs. Nowaczyk and Mrs. Missell

Welcome to Fourth Grade

We are very proud of the children for their knowledge and interest in their faith.  The most important things we discuss all day have to do with the compassion that Jesus showed to others and how we can continue this work right in our own classrooms. We will be doing a lot of bible study to see examples of the good works of Jesus and the Saints.

The children are learning to be great friends.  They listened to The Patchwork Quilt , by Valerie Flournoy and made their own friendship quilts.  Next they wrote about a happy family memory.

        Social Studies

We are exploring the beautiful geography of New York.  The children have studied how glaciers have affected the formation of landforms in New York.  Our glacier projects were fantastic.  Thank you for your support.  Soon we will be moving on to looking at New York Native Americans and their rich heritage.

        Language Arts

Language Arts includes the mastery of skills in reading, writing, spelling, listening and handwriting.  We are learning to write three paragraph essays.  Our first writing piece was autobiographies.  Check out " The Wall of Fame"  outside of our classrooms.  We are improving our sentence skills and nouns are our most recent topic.  We will be listening to fairy-tales with a twist and using the writing process to write our own fairy-tales.  We are looking forward to attending Nazareth Academy's production of "Cinderella-With a Twist"

        Math

We are also always interested in how math is used at our Mom's and Dad's place of business-do you work with metrics, use thermometers,or work with numbers of any sort?  Let us know about it.

The Fourth Grade Math Wizards are having fun finding and solving "real world" math problems.  We developed many strategies with which to solve problems and we're feeling confident and capable in our math skills.  Knowing our multiplication facts is the "easy button" to a lot of our computation.

One of the goals of our Middle States Certification is to add more math into our day.    Mrs. Pioli will be using some enrichment and extension time to work on math projects and concepts and we will find other avenues to use our math skills during our classday and special classes.

         Science

We began the year with a unit of botany and used the topic to conduct some experiments using the Scientific Method.  Next we'll be moving on to the topic of Animals and their classification, structures and functions.  We just can't get enough of those animals-we love them all!   God was good in giving us so many amazing animals to share our lives with.

Our days fly by with a lot of fun and learning.   We can share our faith and be grateful to have each other to spend our days with.

        !
