Academic Intervention Services provide additional instruction to assist students in grades K-8 to meet the New York State learning standards. The environment is positive and is designed to meet a student's needs through individual and/or small group instruction. Students are provided reinforcement of skills through collaboration with the classroom teacher and the technology coordinator. Multiple learning styles are addressed through the use of appropriate teaching techniques. Who receives Academic Intervention Services? Students are selected for Academic Intervention Services (AIS) if they are functioning below grade level expectations as indicated by multiple measures, such as:
Who provides services? Academic Intervention Services are provided by certified, experienced teachers. The intensity of service varies from two to five times per week. Services are provided using methods such as small group and/or individual instruction, push-in programs and by consult model.. It is the team's goal to identify each individual's strengths and personal learning style, and then use this information to provide a successful learning experience for each student. How will I know if my child is participating in the AIS program? You will be notified if your child is eligible for the AIS program. You will also be informed once your child's performance indicates he/she meets or is likely to meet New York State standards. Students who are participating in the program will receive a quarterly progress report. Program Description: * The concepts below should be considered guidelines. The program is tailored to meet each individual's needs. Support is provided until areas of weakness have been strengthened. K-Grade 2: Grades 3-8: Reading Skills: Reading Skills: letter identification/printing vocabulary skills auditory discrimination use of context phonics recalling facts sight words locating information comprehension skills Mathematics Skills: Mathematics Skills: number identification multiplication/division skills counting skills basic facts basic facts multiplication/division skills addition/subtraction skills word problems decimals/integers Writing Skills- All Grades sentence structure sentence/paragraph construction brainstorming proofreading grammar writing process creative writing * Study strategies are explored with all students * Limited services of a school counselor are also available in some cases.
