What are Academic Intervention Services?

Academic Intervention Services provide additional instruction to assist students in grades K-8 to  meet the New York State learning standards. The environment is positive and is designed to meet a student's needs through individual and/or small group instruction. Students are provided reinforcement of skills through collaboration with the classroom teacher and the technology coordinator. Multiple learning styles are addressed through the use of appropriate teaching techniques.

Who receives Academic Intervention Services?

Students are selected for Academic Intervention Services (AIS) if they are functioning below grade level expectations as indicated by multiple measures, such as:

  • Diocesan standardized tests
  • New York State assessments
  • teacher recommendation

Who provides services?

Academic Intervention Services are provided by certified, experienced teachers. The intensity of service varies from two to five times per week. Services are provided using methods such as small group and/or individual instruction, push-in programs and by consult model.. It is the team's goal to identify each individual's strengths and personal learning style, and then use this information to provide a successful learning experience for each student.

How will I know if my child is participating in the AIS program?

You will be notified if your child is eligible for the AIS program. You will also be informed once your child's performance indicates he/she meets or is likely to meet New York State standards. Students who are participating in the program will receive a quarterly progress report.
