RED RIBBON WEEK IS OCTOBER 26-30

The end of October brings more than just fall colors and trick-or-treating.   It’s a time when people like you pledge to stay drug and alcohol free and join the fight against drug use.  People across the nation celebrate this week by promising to stay drug free and fight drug use by wearing red ribbons, T-shirts, stickers, and anything else red!

WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?

It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon.

WHY?
The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.

You can help your child to stay on the road to success by being drug free through:

  • Discussing your family’s values about drugs and obeying the law.
  • Set an example for your child by maintaining healthy habits and demonstrating good character in your everyday life.
  • Be quick to praise your child for showing caring, citizenship, courage, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness.
  • Encourage your child to take responsibility for saying “NO” to drugs and “YES” to a healthy lifestyle.
