All Saints Academy Becomes First Pre-K through 8th Grade School
in the Southern Tier to be Accredited by the Middle States Commission
What is the “Middle States Commission”?
The Middle States Commission on Elementary Education sets the “gold standard” for public and private schools that serve an elementary-age population in five states in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., and in fact around the world. Families with older students may be familiar with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, which is recognized with distinction by the United States Department of Education.
What’s the big deal?
Middle States Accreditation is like a “seal of approval” from the most respected authority in education. It wasn’t easy to earn that approval: The process began in 2006 when All Saints Academy accepted the initial challenge from the Diocese of Rochester to critically evaluate all of their schools. The accreditation application included an 18-month self-study of the school’s organization, personnel, facilities, materials of instruction and strategic planning process. A team of Middle States’ evaluators verified the results of the self-study during a four-day on-site visit in May 2008.
Now what?
Students, teachers, staff, friends and families of All Saints Academy should be very proud of this significant achievement, especially because we were the first one of our peer institutions to earn the honor. Accreditation also bodes well for ASA’s future, as the Middle States’ accreditation process requires schools to engage in a continuous process of improvement. A few points of pride:
· ASA scored 13.0 percent better than NY state averages in 4th, 6th and 8th grades in Math and ELA in 2008
· ASA scored 14.2 percent better than Corning public schools in the same NY state exams in 2008
· Impressive number of recent ASA grads who became salutatorians / valedictorians at local high schools
· Academic-oriented pre-K-4 program
· Quality after-school and summer care
· Reasonable costs considering the quality of education, with substantial sibling discounts
· All faiths are welcome
