St. Louis School in Matuma, Kenya began in 1998 when Fr. Hamisi and Principal, Ms. Carroll had a "Vision" to support the village that Fr. Hamisi grew up in by starting a school so children would be able to be educated close to where they live.
The students at St. Louis School in Pittsford responded with great enthusiasm and gave $1000 from the Mission Day 1998 Activities for that year to Fr. Hamisi to start the school. From that year, the students have supported the Village School and the enrollment has grown from 75 students in two classrooms to its present enrollment of 400 students with 6 classrooms.
Principal, Ms. Carroll along with Photographer,Ms. Keller have visited the Village School which is named St. Louis School and have shared the support of the students and families of Pittsford. The Village School is very grateful for all that is being done and they have a "Vision" to increase the classrooms to include more students up to grade 8 and model the education that students recieve at St. Louis School in Pittsford. The hope that is shared to them has been a gift to Ms. Carroll, who inturn shares this with the students at St. Louis School in Pittsford.
As stated by Bishop Philip in Kenya, " This St. Louis School in Matuma, Kenya is the ONLY school in Kenya that has been started and maintained by students and we should be proud of the Youth in the USA".
