THE “CATHOLIC” IN CATHOLIC SCHOOL
To Teach as Jesus Did, the American Bishops’ Pastoral, is pivotal to any meaningful consideration of the Catholicity of a Catholic school. It states that for a Catholic school to be true to its mission as an agent of change in this world, its Catholic identity must be evident and operative.
To Teach as Jesus Did describes the educational mission of the Church. It is an integrated ministry embracing:

MESSAGE
1. There is evidence of systematic religious education.
2. The life and values of Jesus are consciously integrated into the curriculum.
3. Updated theological and liturgical materials are used.
4. Visible signs and symbols of the Catholic faith are displayed.
5. The Bible is used as a primary source of religious education.
6. Teachers are involved in on-going religious formation and theological studies.
7. There is a definite effort between school and home to share faith activities.
COMMUNITY AND WORSHIP
- Special means are provided for developing the Catholic lifestyle and spirituality of staff, students and parents.
- Daily prayer experiences are provided for children and staff to nourish a personal relationship with Christ.
- The celebration of the sacraments hold a high priority in the curriculum.
- Faith stories and experiences are shared,
- Time is scheduled for retreats and/or days of reflection for students as well as the faculty and staff.
6. The atmosphere in the school is Christian and caring.
7. Actions reflect the philosophy of the school.
8. Students and their opinions are respected.
9. Parents are an integral part of the school faith and learning community.
10. A cooperative relationship with clergy and parishes is evident.
SERVICE
