New York State Education Department Diocesan Curriculum and Assessment

The Catholic schools of the Diocese of Rochester are certified under the Department of Education for the State of New York.  All courses of study follow the New York State Learning Standards and guidelines for instruction and assessment.

Diocesan curriculum guides are developed in collaboration with the other 7 dioceses of NYS.  These guides for teachers are based on the NYS Learning Standards and Core Curriculum with Resource Guides, and are enhanced by the standards of our Catholic schools and Catholic values.

The NYS Department of Education has many resources available to administrators, parents and teachers on its web site.

The NYS assessemnts are given to our students at the following levels:

Grade 4 - English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science

Grade 5 - Social Studies

Grade 8 - English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science
