Educational Technology: The Mission
We are part of a world very different from generations past. The needs of today’s people are different from the needs of people in previous times. Humankind has moved from an industrial age, through the information age, and into the present age of communication at an accelerating pace. As Catholic school educators in the Diocese of Rochester, New York, we recognize the times in which we live and respond to those times grounded in Gospel values. We must use the most current and effective tools available to fulfill the educational mission of our schools.
We integrate emerging technologies into the whole curriculum. When used properly, these technologies become valuable tools for communication and learning. They support the total development of our students as we engage in the fourfold character of the ministry of Catholic school education, identified as teaching the message, building community, celebrating worship, and witnessing to service for others.
Technology is not an end in itself. It is used as a vehicle of communication, teaching, analysis and research in the light of Catholic values and moral decision-making. Every teacher and staff member has the responsibility to prepare our students for life in the future. We must give students the skills and the tools to be lifelong learners, and the moral and ethical values to be responsible citizens of our global society.
Educational Technology: The Vision
We believe:
Our mission is to educate and empower administrators, teachers and students to become self-directed, continuous learners and ethical, responsible citizens prepared to meet the increasing challenges of a global, technological society.
Administrators, teachers, and students should be proficient users of technology with an understanding of the implications of technology in furthering the mission of the Church, that is, the spreading of the Gospel to all people.
Technology should be used as a vehicle of communication, analysis and research in the light of Catholic values and moral decision-making.
We are committed to this educational goal:
The integration and effective use of current and future technology will be used to further our educational mission and the Church’s mission of spreading the Gospel to all people.
We believe effective use of technology occurs in a school when: - A vision of the future is shared by administrators, teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, and students;
- Long-term, sustained, quality staff development and training are used;
- Technology is part of a systematic planning process with an appropriate budget;
- Everyone has access to technical support, adequate hardware, and appropriate types and amounts of software;
- Administrators, teachers, and students work collaboratively in communicating their technology needs and ideas;
- Technology is integrated into each office, classroom, and learning activity;
- Technology serves as a support service to parents/guardians and community;
- Technology is modeled and mandated in all programs and offices to foster the efficient sharing of information and the elimination of uplicate reporting forms;
- All existing communication and information paradigms are continually evaluated;
- All appropriate types of technology are used collectively;
- Technology is monitored and revised based on scheduled feedback from users.
